The NHL Rule Book As A Case Of Study
The NHL rule book is very specific about the players who can
participate in its prestigious professional ice hockey matches. This
helps them maintain the professional value of the game and uphold its
healthy competitive spirit. Each NHL match is played between 2 teams.
Each ice hockey team consists of 20 players of which two are
goalkeepers and the rest 18 are skaters. It is mandatory for every
player to be under contract with the club that they are representing.
The manager or the coach of the team announces the names of the players playing for their club before the game begins. Apart from the 20 players there will also be 1 non-uniformed player allowed on the players bench inside the ice rink, this person will be in coaching capacity.
Once the names of all these players are submitted to the official scorer, the referee before the commencement of the game no changes can be made. Only those mentioned in this roster will be considered eligible players and those involved otherwise will be termed ineligible player and taken as an offense. While the team may consist of 2 goalkeepers, only one goal keeper is allowed to play inside the ice rink at any given time.
